Carol Goldman – 18, of 8241 La Luz, NW, apparently drowned Tuesday in the Colorado River near Grand Canyon, Ariz. Miss Goldman, a spring graduate of Valley High School is the daughter of Mrs. Jane A. Goldman of 8241 La Luz NW and Herbert J Goldman of 1934 Candelaria NW. Goldman is a sculptor. Mrs. Goldman said she was told that Carol was swept away in the rapids while swimming near Phantom Ranch in Grand Canyon National Park. Her companion, Jeanne Putnam, 17, daughter of Maj. and Mrs. James O. Putnam of 2017 Castle SE, witnessed the incident, Mrs. Goldman said. The body had not been recovered by late Wednesday. Miss Goldman had gone to the area with a church group earlier in the summer, and had fallen in love with the area, her mother said. Recently she returned to the area with Miss Putnam.
